Data from The Ministry of Commerce, China confirms more Chinese companies are expanding abroad. China's outbound direct investment by non-financial firms jumped 16.8 percent to $90.2 billion by start of last year 2013. Chinese firms have been quickening the pace of overseas equity buyout in recent years, with their footprint expanding from Asia to Africa and Europe. The ministry said about 90 percent of the total outbound investment went into six industries: commercial services, energy, wholesale and retail, manufacturing, construction and transportation. Leveraging the economic development process with LU Consulting cross-cultural capabilities gives our clients a strategic and tactical competitive advantage. Cross-cultural components will impact all stages of the foreign investment process like

  • Negotiations Relationship
  • Consensus-building
  • The decision-making process
  • Actual project implementation.
  • Relationship-building
  • The region’s sales & marketing effort

According to Chinese Government data, 72% of Chinese ODI (Outbound Direct Investment) during the period of 2004-2010 went to Asia and the vast majority of this (87%) went to Hong Kong. It is likely that a significant proportion of this is in fact being routed from China through Hong Kong for structural reasons with the initial destination being elsewhere. Interestingly, the share of China’s ODI flows to developed markets (Europe and North America) is relatively small compared to corresponding trade flows, where 5% of Chinese FDI went to Europe in 2012.
